Perhaps the dimensions of the room are an issue (i.e., very long and narrow or very small). Are there ceiling issues, such as a low ceiling, beams or ductwork hanging down below the ceiling? The bad things need to be minimized as much as possible. Part of interior design is playing up the good features and minimizing the bad.
